Founded back in 2009, we didn't plan on becoming Vancouver's go-to coastal architects. It just kinda happened. Our founder, Marcus Quinthor, spent his childhood summers at his grandfather's boathouse in Tofino - and honestly, that's where the obsession began.
He noticed how most waterfront buildings felt like they were fighting against the ocean instead of working with it. So he set out to change that, one project at a time.
We're not your typical architecture firm. We get our boots muddy, we spend time on-site watching tides roll in, and yeah, we've been caught sketching designs on napkins at harbourside cafes more times than we'd like to admit.
We've learned the hard way that you can't boss nature around. Every shoreline has its own personality, its own rhythm. Our job isn't to dominate it - it's to listen, observe, and create spaces that feel like they've always belonged there.
Waterfront spaces aren't just buildings - they're gathering spots, they're memories in the making. We've seen kids catch their first fish off docks we designed, watched communities come together in marinas we've planned. That stuff matters to us.
We're a crew of architects, marine engineers, and environmental planners who genuinely love what we do. Some of us sail, some kayak, one guy even builds wooden boats in his garage. Point is, we live and breathe coastal life.
"Every waterfront project teaches us something new. We've been doing this for over a decade, and honestly? We're still students of the sea."
- Marcus Quinthor, Founder
Look, we could've set up shop anywhere on the coast. But there's something about Vancouver's waterfront that just gets us. The mix of working harbours, residential shores, and urban waterfronts creates this incredible playground for what we do.
Plus, being based at 1425 Harbour Avenue means we're literally steps from the water. We grab coffee, walk the seawall, and get inspired. It's not a bad way to work, honestly.
Coastal Projects
Years Experience
We don't follow some rigid playbook. Every shoreline's different, every client has their own vision. But there are a few things we always do...
We spend real time at the location. Different times of day, different weather conditions. You'd be surprised what you notice when you just sit and watch the water move.
We sketch ideas together, throw around concepts, sometimes argue a bit. It's messy but it works. The best designs come from healthy debate and multiple perspectives.
We're designing for decades, not just today. Rising sea levels, changing weather patterns, evolving communities - we factor it all in because our buildings need to last.
Whether you're planning a private dock, a commercial marina, or revitalizing an entire waterfront district - we'd love to hear about it. Fair warning though: we'll probably ask a ton of questions and might suggest walking the site together at dawn. That's just how we roll.
Give us a shout at (604) 555-0187 or drop us an email. We're pretty good at getting back to people quickly - usually within a day unless we're out on a site visit.
