Look, We Get It
Last updated: January 2024
Nobody really enjoys reading these things, but we're gonna be straight with you about what happens with your info when you work with us or visit our site.
After two decades designing spaces along the BC coast, we've built our reputation on trust and transparency. That same approach applies to how we handle your personal information. We're not in the business of selling data or doing anything sketchy - we're architects who occasionally need to collect some details to do our job properly.
What Info We Actually Collect
When You Reach Out
Name, email, phone number, property details, project ideas - basically whatever you share in your inquiry form or initial consultation. We need this stuff to actually respond to you and understand what you're hoping to build.
Project Documents
Once we're working together, we'll collect property surveys, existing building docs, photos of your site, budget info - all the technical bits needed to design something that actually works for your waterfront location.
Website Analytics
Standard stuff like IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, time spent. Helps us figure out if people are actually finding what they need on our site or if we need to rethink our layout.
Cookies & Tech
We use cookies to remember your preferences and keep the site functioning smoothly. Nothing invasive, just basic website housekeeping. You can disable them if you want, though some features might act a bit wonky.
How We Actually Use This Stuff
We're not gonna beat around the bush here - we use your information to do the work you hired us for and keep our business running. Here's the breakdown:
- Design & Planning: Creating architectural drawings, obtaining permits, coordinating with engineers and contractors. Y'know, the actual architecture part.
- Communication: Sending project updates, responding to questions, scheduling site visits. We're pretty responsive, sometimes too much according to our families.
- Legal Requirements: Building permits, zoning compliance, professional liability insurance. Coastal development comes with extra regulatory layers - we've gotta document things properly.
- Improving Our Services: Learning from past projects, understanding what clients need, refining our waterfront design approach based on real feedback.
- Portfolio & Marketing: With your explicit permission, we might showcase completed projects. We'll always check with you first and respect if you prefer privacy.
Keeping Your Data Safe
We take reasonable precautions to protect your information - encrypted storage, secure servers, password-protected systems. Our office network is locked down tighter than most Vancouver condos.
That said, let's be real for a second. No system is 100% hack-proof. We do our best with industry-standard security measures, but we can't guarantee absolute security. If there's ever a breach that affects your data, we'll let you know promptly and tell you what happened without the corporate spin.
Physical documents are kept in locked cabinets at our Harbour Avenue office. Digital files are backed up regularly and stored with Canadian-based cloud providers that comply with privacy laws.

Your Rights Under Canadian Law
You've got rights when it comes to your personal information, and we respect that. Here's what you can do:
Access & Review
Ask to see what information we have about you. We'll provide it within a reasonable timeframe, usually within 30 days.
Corrections
If something's wrong or outdated, let us know and we'll fix it. Accurate info makes our job easier anyway.
Deletion
Request that we delete your information, with some exceptions for legal and contractual obligations we need to maintain.
Withdraw Consent
Change your mind about marketing emails or portfolio usage. No hard feelings - just shoot us an email.
How Long We Keep Your Stuff
We're required by professional standards and insurance requirements to keep project documentation for at least 10 years after completion. That includes architectural drawings, correspondence, contracts, and site documentation.
Marketing inquiries that don't turn into projects? We'll keep those for about a year, then clear them out. No point cluttering our systems with outdated info.
Once retention periods expire and there's no legal reason to keep documents, we securely delete or destroy them. Digital files get wiped, paper gets shredded.
Changes to This Policy
We might update this policy occasionally as laws change or our practices evolve. When we do, we'll post the new version here with an updated date at the top. For significant changes, we'll send an email to active clients. We're not gonna sneak anything past you.
Questions? Just Ask
If you've got concerns about how we handle your information, or you want to exercise any of those rights mentioned above, don't hesitate to reach out. We'd rather have a straightforward conversation than leave you wondering.
